Contacting Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

After performing the primary survey of the victim, it is important to contact EMS for help.  The call should be made either by the rescuer or any witnesses that are able to perform this step.

Dial "911" or "0" for the operator to reach the local EMS.  Be prepared to answer the following questions:

  • The actual location, be as specific as possible (the name of the building, room number).
  • Telephone number
  • Caller's name
  • The reason for the call
  • Number of victims
  • Condition of victim(s)
  • First Aid provided to the victim

Confirm with the dispatcher that the help is on its way and hang up the phone.
